The U.S. Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale will showcase 52 projects that embody the theme Porch: An Architecture of Generosity, highlighting the attribute as a space for community and civic engagement. Selected by a distinguished jury, the finalists include Studio Gang, Brooks + Scarpa, Olson Kundig, and Pei Cobb Freed + Partners, Moody Nolan, and Hood Design Studio, among others.

Organizers of the U.S. Pavilion have announced the 52 finalists who will participate in the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Each project responds to the brief co-commissioners Peter MacKeith, Susan Chin, and Rod Bigelow shared which asked for works that center the American porch, in all of its cultural, political, and social dimensions.

The organizers behind the U.S. Pavilion for the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale have selected 52 projects to feature as part of the pavilion’s exhibition. Chosen from a nationwide open call, the projects will feature as part of the PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity exhibition which will “highlight the cultural, architectural, and environmental significance of this iconic American typology.”

Consider the porch: A low-tech structure typically made of wood or stone that plays an oversized role in American culture. From August Wilson’s Pittsburgh, Harper Lee’s Alabama, Spike Lee’s New York, to John Steinbeck’s California; artists lean on porches as literary devices for telling complex stories about civic life, and as liminal spaces that divide our public and private worlds pregnant with meaning.
